Pregnancy Tests

A pregnancy test can determine if you are pregnant by detecting the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your blood or urine. Elevated levels of hCG indicate pregnancy. Most pregnancy tests are effective starting from the first day after a missed period. If you are unsure of when your next period is due, take the test at least 21 days after your last instance of unprotected intercourse. Some highly accurate pregnancy tests can be used even before a missed period. For the best results, perform a urine pregnancy test one or two weeks after a missed period. Typically, your period should start between 21 and 35 days after your last period, depending on your cycle. Regular cycles can vary, but if your cycle is usually 28 days and you reach day 29 without a period, it is considered late.
